Well, I almost managed to get through the entire year without missing a bi-monthly update but a busy Fall and the holiday rush got the best of me and I didn’t have time until this evening.
There have been A TON of great mastering projects coming through as usual which I’ll get to, but first I should mention that CJ Foeckler stopped by back in September to take some up-to-date photos of the studio which you can now see on the website. CJ has been doing my studio photos for nearly a decade now and always does an amazing job.
I don’t even know where to start with the new releases from the last 4 months but I’ll do my best:
Milwaukee’s Field Report released a great new EP called “Trust In Movements Made”. Proceeds from sales of this EP go to LOTUS Legal Clinic which invests in survivors of human trafficking and sexual violence by blending comprehensive civil legal services, victims’ rights representation, and therapeutic arts programming that results in survivor-driven justice, healing, and systemic change. You can find it HERE.
J.R. Carroll who is currently a member of Zach Bryan‘s touring band released his debut studio album on December 6th. It was mixed by Matt Ross-Spang and mastered here. The album is called “Dark Cloud” and is available on all the streaming platforms. It’s great.
Verböten (Jason Narducy & friends) released their debut album after being a band for over 40 years. It was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago, mixed by Sean O’Keefe, and mastered here. It’s available on all the streaming services but it’s best if you read the entire story on the Bandcamp page, and purchase it there if you enjoy it. You can find it HERE.
Night Crickets which are a group made up of David J. Haskins (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) , Victor DeLorenzo (Violent Femmes), and Darwin Meiners released their 2nd album called “How It Ends (?)” which is available on all the streaming services at this time, and will be available on vinyl soon too.
Mike Maimone & Mutts reissued their “Object Permanence” album but it wasn’t just a typical remaster. Mike resang all the vocals and Manny Sanchez remixed the entire thing before it was mastered here. It’s available on all the streaming platforms but also on Bandcamp, and you can buy it on vinyl HERE.
Interscope Records just announced a special new version of “Dr. Octagonecologyst” by Dr. Octagon (an alter ego of hip-hop legend Kool Keith) for their monthly “Interscope Vinyl Collective” series. It will be available in January and you can still get in on it now before they’re sold out. The full album was remastered here and is presented as a 2LP with a gatefold jacket for the first time, the vinyl is pressed on bone with red splatter and bone with black splatter vinyl. The album includes the bonus tracks “Bear Witness (Automator’s 2 Turntables And A Razor Blade Re-Edit)”, “Blue Flowers (Automator Remix)”, “3000 (Automator 1,2 Remix)”, and “Blue Flowers (Prince Paul’s ‘So Beautiful’ Mix)”.
Screeching Weasel reissued their 1988 classic “Boogadaboogadaboogada!” as a legacy edition using the 2020 Remaster that was done here. The legacy edition (released by Striped Records in Italy) includes a second LP containing a live set from Gilman Street in 1988 (previously released as “Live ’88”), a nice booklet featuring an interview with Ben Weasel, and more. US customers can buy it HERE.
Screeching Weasel also reissued their “Christmas Eve / New Years Eve” two-song single both digitally, and on vinyl for the very first time. Both songs were remixed for this release and those new mixes were mastered here. At this time the vinyl is sold out but that could change.
Sounds Rad! has done another great Mr. T Experience reissue that was remastered here. This time it’s “The Miracle Of Shame” EP, available on vinyl for the first time ever. You can order it and read more HERE.
In personal news, I’ll be dusting off my bass and reuniting with Bash & Pop (Tommy Stinson‘s first post-Replacements band) in May for a few sets on the inaugural Little Steven’s Underground Garage Cruise with a ton of other great bands. More info HERE.
Lastly, this December marks 15 years of officially running Mystery Room Mastering. I’ve of course been working in audio for longer than that (nearly 30 years if you count the early days), but it’s truly been an honor to provide mastering services to all my clients, friends, colleagues, and others for 15 solid years. I truly appreciate the opportunity to do it all day every day.
