I had a great time at The NAMM Show in Anaheim. These days, trade shows and audio events which are not usually my thing aren’t really about the gear and hype, they’re more about the people. Getting to meet or see people in person that you usually only interact with online is a good thing to do once in awhile, even for an introvert like me.
While I was in the LA area I got to stop at Universal Music Group to meet some folks I’ve been working with on some reissue stuff, and pick up a copy of “Asia” by Asia on vinyl from the recent remaster that was done here. It’s an epic album, HERE is a photo of it. The streaming version has been updated to the version that was remastered here as well.
Another great reissue project that just came out is “Gotta Get A Grip” by MC Trouble, who was the first female hip-hop artist to sign with Motown Records in the late 1980s. You can find this classic album on all the major streaming services for the first time. Remastered here.
I also got to stop in at RHINO Records headquarters to meet some of the folks I’ve been working with on some recent remastering projects, including another Replacements Box Set in which the test pressings were just approved. There should be an announcement later this year as to what it is and when it will be released.
It wasn’t related to NAMM at all actually but earlier in April, I added a unique piece of gear to the mastering desk, which is a Gyraf G21. Rather than explain it here, it’s probably best to just check out the description on the website HERE.
Madison duo Seasaw released their great album “Projecting” that was mixed by Beau Sorenson, and mastered here. It’s of course streaming everywhere, and available digitally via their Bandcamp page and on CD and vinyl via their website.
One of my oldest mastering clients Dope Folks Records just announced their 106th release which is their first “Best Of”. For over 10 years they’ve had all their releases mastered here. You can pre-order “The Best Of Dope Folks Records” HERE.
Mike Gent from The Figgs just released his 6th solo album called “Career Moves”. It’s streaming everywhere but you can get it on CD or vinyl HERE.
Lastly, the WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Awards) has a cheesy and problematic past. Their new director is trying to right some of the wrongs and make it a better organization. It’s too early to say much more about it but it is nice to be included as a finalist for both “Studio Engineer/Producer” and “Recording Studio” of the year.
